2013 Australian Claycourt Championships (Closed)

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA: The Australian Seniors Claycourt Championships, which took place on 8-11th March on red clay at the Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club, proved a great success.

The Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club has fantastic facilities, including clay courts as well as grass and hardcourts with the latter playing host to a pre-Australian Open exhibition event every year, which were well received by the 230 participating players and spectators alike. The notion of an ITF Closed event also went down well and will be continued in the future.

Results are available here and have also been posted separately on the Tennis Seniors Australia website www.tennisseniors.org.au. Suffice to say the event saw some great tennis and some very close matches played in unusually hot weather, even by Melbourne standards.

The tournament dinner held at Kooyong on Sunday night was also a great success and was attended by about 140 players, partners and guests. TSA President Reg Trevaskis welcomed distinguished guest Judy Dalton who gave a highly entertaining and very relaxed address about some of her experiences on the world circuit.

Judy was a Wimbledon finalist in 1968 when she lost to the great Billie Jean King, and has this year been inducted into the Australian Tennis Hall of Fame.
