ITF Dixon Senior Cup joins the Seniors Circuit

ITF 5 "DIXON Senior Cup 2012"

BANSKA BYSTRICA, SLOVAK REPUBLIC:  Taking place at the Tennis Centre Hotel Dixon, 5th-9th May, this  tournament proved very successful with many locals as well as players from Poland, Canada, Czech Republic, Ukraine and Hungary.

Offering both single and doubles to players in a number of different age categories for both men and women.

The first of the Mens events (35s) saw tournament director Marek Novak produce the first upset of the tournament by beating number two seed Radovan Sninsky in the first round comfortably in 2 sets  62 61. 

After progressing to the final without dropping a set, Novak was to set up an exciting final against number one seed, Klaudiusz Fojcik whose current world ranking stands at 65.  After losing the first set 63, Novak was to take the title winning the next 2 sets 63 62.

The women’s 35s title was won by Alena Vechterova.  She did this in style after winning all of her matches in this round robin event and also did this without dropping a set.

The men’s 40s event provided a good draw with top seed Juraj Koman taking the title 63 64 against Marian Vrsko.  Vrsko had caused an upset on his way to the final after beating the number two seed on his way to the final.

Another upset occurred in the men’s 45s after top seed with a current world ranking of 91 lost in the quarterfinals to Hungarian Istvan Koszo who continued his fine form to take the title.

Top seed, Jordan Kufka produced some good tennis in the men’s 60s to take the title without dropping a set.

In the doubles, the men’s 45s title was won by Peter Janciar and Jan Zupa after they won all of their matches in this round robin event.

Success continued for the home nation with Jozef Brna and Sivester Juracek taking the men’s 65 title.

In conclusion, the tournament had a very successful introduction to the ITF Seniors circuit providing an excellent base to build upon in 2013.
