2012 Wilson/Mayfair ITF Senior Circuit 3

TORONTO, CANADA: Some familiar names took home trophies while new faces emerged at the 3rd stop in the Wilson/Mayfair series of events on the ITF Seniors Circuit. This Grade 3 event took place at three Mayfair Clubs across Toronto from 13-15 April.

It was Mohith Vijaykumar’s (CAN) first Senior ITF tournament and he made it all the way to the final of the men’s 35 before having to retire in the third set against Charles Gembes (CAN) with a knee injury. It was an unfortunate ending to a terrific match that saw Charles have to battle from a set down and ultimately win 36 62 20 retired.

It was also first time lucky for Sophie Ronan of Toronto, who won an ITF Senior’s circuit title at her first attempt in the women’s 35. She defeated circuit regular Erin Boynton (CAN) in a three-set semifinal before taking down Patty Thornicroft (CAN) in the final, 62 75.

Among the not-so-surprise winners were Matthew Akman (CAN), who beat compatriot Ben Woo in the men’s 40 final 62 62. Mike Rose (USA), playing in his first Senior ITF tournament since November 2010, defeated Gary Meanchos(CAN) in the men’s 50 final whilst Jean-Pierre Cote (CAN) continued his domination in the men’s 55’s, winning his third consecutive Wilson/Mayfair Senior ITF title without the drop of a single set.

The next stop on the Wilson/Mayfair series is from November 9-11, 2012.
