ALASSIO, ITALY: The Hanbury Tennis Club staged the 43rd International Championships of Italy from 14-22 April in Alassio, Italy.

This Grade 1 ITF Seniors Circuit attracted a high quality field with many past and present ITF World Champions taking part. The tournament offered events in 11 different age categories and for the first year players competed for points in the ITF Seniors Doubles and Mixed Doubles rankings.

The top two seeds met in the final of the Men’s 65 singles. Top seed Petr Kolacek (SUI), last year’s world champion in this age category faced second seed Jorge Camina Borda (ESP) who won the men’s 60 world title in 2011. It is Camina Borda’s first year in this age category and his success looks set to continue after he beat Kolacek 75 61 to win his second title of the year.

There was success for France in the women’s events with Nicole Hesse Cazaux winning the women’s 60’s and compatriot Gail Benedetti winning the 65’s, both without dropping a set. Further success was achieved after the pair then teamed up to win the women’s 55 doubles.
