UMAG, CROATIA: The 2012 Super-Seniors World Championships are taking place in Umag and Novigrad, Croatia from 10th to 23rd September. This is the first time that the Super-Seniors (players aged 60 and over) have headed to Croatia since 1989, which was before the World Championships were split into two different groups, Seniors and Super-Seniors.

This first week is the Team Championships, which includes ten cups across five different age categories. The 2012 event features 187 participating teams and 700 players. The USA will be looking to repeat their success at last year's event in Antalya, Turkey where they won seven cups - the nation is once again among the favourites for the Men's 60 Von Cramm Cup which they have won for the last two years, and returns with two members of last year's winning team, Larry Turville and Tony Dawson. But the Americans will face stiff competition from Australia whose team includes world No. 1 Andrew Rae.

It is the same story in the Women's 70 Althea Gibson Cup, which the USA have also won for the last two years. The top seeds will be led by Donna Fales, the world champion in this age category in 2010 and a member of last year's winning team.

Many of the team players will stay on in Umag to compete for individual glory in the World Individual Championships next week. This year mixed doubles will be played for the first time, which means a total of 27 events will be held across six different age categories from 60 to 85 years.
