Peter Polansky - January 2007
The first featured player for 2007 is Peter Polansky from Canada.
Peter competed in four tournaments during January all in Central America. His first tournament of the year was in El Salvador F1 where he took the singles title by defeating Slovak Jan Stancik in three sets in the final. After losing the first set 75, the only set dropped by Peter all week, he came back strongly to win the next two sets 61 62.
The next stop for Peter was Guatemala F1, again Peter only dropped one set all week en route taking the title defeating the number 1 seeded player Miguel Gallardo-Valles of Mexico in straight sets in the semi finals before recording another impressive straight sets victory over the number 2 seed John-Paul Fruttero from USA in the final.
At the Panana F1 tournament his winning streak came to an abrupt end when Peter was defeated in the opening round against Argentina’s Jonathan Gonzalia 57 63 64.
His final tournament in January saw Peter come through the qualifying event of Costa Rica F1 on his way to taking his third title from four tournaments. Once more Peter had to face the number 1 seed, this time in the quarter finals against Alexander Satschko of Germany and Peter won this encounter 63 60. Lester Cook of USA was his opponent in the final in Costa Rica and it took Peter three sets to take the title (26 75 63) and with it the January Player of the Month award.
For the month of January, Peter won 3 Futures Titles and 36 points from four tournaments and also saw his ATP singles ranking climb from 821 on January 1st to a new career high of 580.
