Alexander Satschko - June 2006
The featured player for June is German player Alexander Satschko, who won two singles and two doubles titles at four different tournaments during the month.
At Ukraine F4 in Gorlovka, Satschko the top seed, took the title with the loss of only one set, beating compatriot Bastian Knittel in the final 62 63. Satscho and Knittel then paired up in the doubles, but fell at the first hurdle, losing 63 76(3) to Andrei Gorban and Ernest Zurabian, who subsequently made it to the final.
Alexander then moved on to Turkey F1 in Ankara. He made the final for the second consecutive week, where he came up against Teodor-Dacian Craciun from Romania in three tight sets 76(3) 46 67(5). He fared better in the doubles, partnering Brazilian Marcio Torres and taking the title by overcoming the local favourites Haluk Akkoyun and Ergun Zorlu 75 46 63.
The action for Turkey F2 moved to the ENKA Tennis Club in Istanbul. Again the top seed, Alexander progressed to the final, where he came up against David Canudas-Fernandez from Spain. After losing the first set, Satschko made a strong come back to take the title 46 75 60. Satschko and Torres teamed up for the doubles, but they were unable to get past the British pair of Chris Eaton and Andrew Kennaugh in the semi finals, despite a spirited comeback in the second set, the match ending 36 76(5) 06.
Alexander chose to then play in Iran, but was unable to progress past the semi final stage, being defeated by the eventual winner, Daniel Koellerer from Austria, 16 63 46. Satschko and Koellerer teamed up for the doubles event, where they beat the Slovakian pair of Victor Bruthans and Filip Polasek 26 62 76(5).
In four events, Satschko won 2 singles titles, 2 doubles titles and a total of 38 singles circuit points. This run of form is commendable as he had only won one singles and one doubles title during the previous five months of the year.
