BATH, ENGLAND : Germany's Peter Torebko and Czech teenager Tereza Smitkova were victorious in the singles finals of the ITF Pro Circuit tournament held in Bath in South West England.
For Torebko, 24, this was his fifth Pro Circuit singles title and second title in succession in England, adding to his triumph in Tipton in the West Midlands region. This was a career second for 17-year-old Smitkova from the Czech Republic whose first pro title came in mid-January in Germany.
Second seed Torebko overcame the challenge of three British hopes en route to the final where Sweden's Michael Ryderstedt, seeded fourth, was defeated comfortably in straight sets 62 62.
For Smitkova, her tournament began in the qualifying event where as top seed she dropped just three games in two matches to earn a main draw place. Once in the draw she stunned the sixth seed 61 60 in the opening round before progressing through to the final.
Her opponent was another seeded player, this time fifth seed Katarzyna Piter from Poland who having taken the first set 64 looked on course to go on and win the title but Smitkova showed the same fighting spirit as displayed in the opening round and conceded just three games in the next two sets to secure a 46 62 61 win.
British duo Lewis Burton and Edward Corrie, the No. 2 seeds, took the doubles title with a 63 64 win over unseeded Belgians Arthur de Greef and Yannik Reuter.
The women's doubles title also saw British success as top seeds Samantha Murray and Emily Webley-Smith saw off the Slovak-Polish combination of Lenka Jurikova and Katarzyna Piter respectively in a closely fought final which ended 46 64 [10-5].
