$10,000 Bidar 2012 - singles finalists

BIDAR, INDIA: Top seed Wing Yau Venise Chan (HKG) lived up to her billing as she lifted the inaugural Ashok Kheny $10,000 ITF Bidar Open Women’s singles title, the sixth of her career. She recorded an emphatic 62 63 victory over unseeded Yumi Miyazaki (JPN) at the Police training school courts in Bidar on Saturday.

Chan proved too good for an erratic Miyazaki in the title contest which lasted little over an hour. It was marked by prolonged rallies but the 23-year-old came out on top in the baseline duel belting her ground strokes with power and  accuracy.

In the first set the world No. 371 Chan broke her rival in the first and fifth games and took a 4-1 lead, before Miyazaki struck back in the sixth game to cut the deficit to 2-4, but there was no stopping Chan who, despite conceding a double fault, rallied to hold her serve and took the first set 62.

The second set also followed a similar pattern with Chan breaking her rival in the first and fifth game to lead 4-1. Though Miyazaki forced two more breaks in the sixth and eighth games, her own serve came under a relentless barrage of winners from Chan and she dropped the set 63 and with it the match.

Afterwards Chan said: "I am very happy to win here, though the score line looks easy Miyazaki fought for every point and I hope to keep up my good form in the forthcoming tournaments as well".

Special guest at the final was India's Girisha Hosanagara Nagarajegowda, a silver medallist in the high jump at the recent London 2012 Paralympics. Ashok Kheny also committed to sponsor and support the event for the next five years ensuring the return of the ITF Pro Circuit to Bidar.
