$25,000 Vigo - Georgie Stoop (singles champion)
The Spanish city of Vigo, which looks out to the Atlantic Ocean, was last week host to a $25,000 tournament on the ITF Women’s Circuit.
The singles final saw the No. 1 and No. 3 seeds compete for the title in what was an all-British affair between Katie O’Brien (1), ranked just outside the top 100, and Georgie Stoop (3), ranked just inside the top 200. This was the second all-British final of 2009 on the ITF Women's Circuit and the twenty-fourth since 1996 and these two players, both in their early 20’s, played out a close opening set which finished 75 to Stoop who then went on to claim the title, her first since November 2006 and second of her career to date, by taking the second set 62 against her highly ranked opponent.
Stoop also made it to her first doubles final since October 2007 but with partner Jade Curtis, and seeded third, lost 76(3) 62 to the tournaments top seeded pairing of Karolina Kosinska (POL) & Laura Thorpe (FRA).
