SANT CUGAT, SPAIN: In the Spanish town just 35km north-west of Barcelona, five Spanish players, and one from the Netherlands, took to the courts to play out the singles and doubles finals of the $25,000 tournament.

Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor, currently ranked 105 in the world, added a sixth title to her 2012 haul by stunning her fellow compatriot Estrella Cabeza-Candela 61 64 in the final. Both players came back from a set down in their semifinals, which again featured two Spanish players, to reach the trophy match. Maria-Teresa will no doubt have drawn on her recent tournament winning experience to edge past Estrella, having taken two back-to-back titles at $100,000+H Bucharest and $100,000 Olomouc back in July.

In the doubles draw, Spain’s Leticia Costas and Arantxa Parra-Santonja took on Ines Ferrer-Suarez (ESP) and Richel Hogenkamp (NED) in the final, winning 63 63. This was just the third time Costas and Parra-Santonja have paired up on the ITF Pro Circuit.  Having lost to this week’s semifinalists, Reka-Luca Jani (HUN) and Christina Shakovets (GER) in September’s $50,000 tournament in Telavi, Georgia, their decision to join forces once more this week ended in success in front of a home crowd.

Maria-Teresa and Estrella are scheduled to take part in next week’s $25,000 tournament in Seville where Estrella will be hoping to exact revenge in her hometown. Will they set up another meeting in next week’s final?  For results, see here.
