Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor is within one ITF Pro Circuit singles victory of equalling the record 31 consecutive main draw wins set by Casey Dellacqua between September 2011 and May 2012.
The 20-year old Spaniard’s remarkable run of victories, the highest in 2012, only began in June and saw her take the titles in six tournaments across four nations.
Her first title in this sequence came as a qualifier in the Czech Republic $25,000 tournament held in Zlin, this was followed with wins in Romania and Italy. Her fourth and fifth successes came in the second half of July at back-to-back $100,000 tournaments in Bucharest, Romania and Olomouc, Czech Republic.
A break from the ITF Pro Circuit then followed during which time she attempted to qualify for the US Open and had three tournaments on the WTA Tour.
In October Torro-Flor was back competing on the ITF Pro Circuit at a tournament in Spain and as the number one seed claimed her sixth title to move onto 30 main draw singles wins and up to a new career high WTA singles ranking of 95, her first appearance in the Top 100.
Since reaching the 30-win mark, Torro-Flor has not competed on the ITF Pro Circuit but all eyes will be on her when she next steps out onto court in an ITF Pro Circuit tournament where she’ll be just two wins from making history.
