Pei Chi Lee (Chinese Taipei)

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Pei-Chi Lee of Chinese Taipei dashed Indian hopes by beating Natasha Palha 64 62 to win the 'Ten Sports ITF Women's Tennis Tournament' being played at the R.K.Khanna Tennis Stadium, New Delhi.

Both the girls started out nervously as was expected since it was their first appearances in an ITF Pro Circuit singles final. Lee, with her flat ground strokes, was sticking to her game plan of first strike tennis and was taking more chances than Palha who did extremely well to run down a lot of balls and tried to force Lee to go for more.

The girls traded breaks of serve and the match was evenly poised at 4-4 in the first set. This is when Palha became a bit more nervous and made some unforced errors to hand Lee the first set 64. At 1-1, 40-30 with Lee serving, the match was disrupted due to a massive dust storm followed by rain. The match had to be postponed, to be finished, on Sunday morning.

This gave both players ample time to talk to their coaches and re-asse their game plans. On Sunday morning the match was resumed from where it had been stopped. Lee came out firing and stuck to her game plan, whereas Palha didn't make any tactical changes to upset Lee's rhythm.

As Lee kept moving towards victory, Palha seemed to get more nervous and started making a lot more unforced errors. Lee won the second set easily 62 and with it, her first professional tournament.

Mr. Atul Pande, CEO of Ten Sports, was on hand to present awards to all the winners & runners-up of the event.
