LANDISVILLE, USA: Congratulations to Alisa Kleybanova who took the singles title over the weekend having come through the qualifying event.
Kleybanova, who has been battling Hodgkin's lymphoma, dropped just the one set all week as she added to her 2008 title win in Minsk in what was her last appearance on the ITF Pro Circuit before becoming a regular on the WTA Tour.
A former WTA world number 20, Kleybanova was competing in only her second tournament, the other being an appearance as a wild card entrant in the 2012 Miami tournament, since her illness forced her into leaving tennis in May 2011.
Speaking after her 63 60 final defeat of seventh seeded Natalie Pluskota of the USA, Kleybanova said: "In the beginning of the tournament it was a little hard for me to put things together because I was a little too nervous sometimes, a little too much in a rush sometimes. I made my matches more difficult than they were supposed to be.
"Today, I'm happy that I didn't do that. I closed the points I needed to close. I won the games I needed to win, so I didn't make it last too long. I finished it the way it's supposed to be" reported Lancaster Online.com.
