EGY F12 - Sherif Sabry - singles champion

The final of the Egypt F12 Futures tournament in Cairo saw two of Egypt's Davis Cup stars facing off for the title. Second seed Karim Maamoun and fourth seed Sherif Sabry, who regularly represent Egypt in live Davis Cup singles rubbers as well as teaming up for doubles rubbers, were going head-to-head for the fourth time in 2009, with Maamoun holding the psychological advantage over his fellow Egyptian, having won the previous three encounters all in straight sets.

Watched by their Davis Cup captain, Mostafa Naim Dalam, who was on hand to present the trophies, Maamoun looked to be on his way to yet another triumph against his fellow Davis Cup colleague, winning the opening set 64. Sabry, however, was not going to go down without a fight and fought back to level the match with the loss of just one game in the second set. With both players demonstrating a high level of play, the match entered into a final set and after 2 hours and fifteen minutes of play, it was Sabry who emerged the victor, winning 46 61 63, and in doing so won only his second match from ten attempts against Maamoun.

This final win also marked the first time that Sabry has won back-to-back titles, having won last week, also in Cairo. These two titles, added to his title won in Giza, Egypt back in June, means he has now won the last three Egyptian Futures singles titles.

In the doubles event, Wild Card entrants Omar Altmann (GER) & Bassam Beidas (LIB) upset the No. 4 seeds, Giulio Torroni (ITA) & Mikhail Vasiliev (RUS) 62 63 in the final to win their first tournament together.
