Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard is set to feature in the upcoming $25K tournament being held in Fort Walton Beach, FL, USA on the ITF Pro Circuit. The Montreal resident who celebrated her 18th birthday last Saturday finished 2011 as the year-end World Number 4 ranked player on the ITF Junior Rankings which qualified her for the Junior Exempt Programme.
Bouchard’s entry into this Pro Circuit tournament as a Junior Exempt will see her in action for just the second time in 2012 following her appearance at the $25K Burnie tournament in Australia where she was attempting to make a successful defence of her 2011 title (a quarterfinal defeat brought an end to that particular dream).
Highlights of 2011 for the young Canadian included reaching the semifinal of the Junior Australian Open; a feat she matched at the 2012 event, winning her first ITF Pro Circuit titles in Burnie and Sibenik, appearing on the WTA Tour for the first time and making her debut for the Canadian Fed Cup team.
Her Fed Cup appearance saw her record a crucial win over Masa Zec-Peskiric with Canada trailing their World Group II play-off tie versus Slovenia 2-1, Canada would, however, go on to lose the deciding doubles rubber.
In terms of rankings, as well as securing the ITF Junior World Number 4 year-end ranking, Bouchard also climbed to new career highs on the WTA rankings, peaking at 300 in singles and 356 in doubles.
You can follow her progress at Fort Walton Beach, FL online here on the ITF Pro Circuit website where tournament results will be uploaded daily after close of play.
