$25,000 Szczecin - Magda Linette
Szczecin, a Polish city and the largest seaport in Poland on the Baltic Sea, hosted a $25,000 ITF Pro Circuit tournament during the week commencing June 7th 2010.
Polish 18-year old Wild Card entrant Magda Linette, competing in her debut ITF Pro Circuit final, took the title with a resounding 62 60 demolition of long time Estonian Fed Cup regular Margit Ruutel, also a former WTA Top 200 ranked player. Linette, who has represented her home nation in the Junior Fed Cup competition (2008) dropped just the one set, the opening set of her second round match, en route to the title and a win that brings her ever closer to breaking into the WTA Top 400.
Another young Polish Wild Card entrant to do well in the singles event at this tournament was 17-year old Paula Kania who eventually bowed out in the quarterfinals against the experienced No. 3 seed from the Czech Republic, Petra Cetkovska, a former WTA Top 50 ranked player.
In the doubles event the title went to the Czech Republic’s No. 4 seeded pairing of Petra Cetkovska & Eva Hrdinova whose straight sets 76(5) 63 victory over Veronika Kapshay (UKR) & Justine Ozga (GER), the No. 3 seeds, gave them a first title together on the ITF Pro Circuit.
The tournament was very well organised and was held alongside a TE U14 event and after matches players would attend Sea Days in the port of Szczecin where they could gaze over magnificent boats, try many kinds of local cuisine, attend concerts or simply relax and have fun at the amusement grounds.
