| Singapore begins final year of countdown |
On Friday 14 August, the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC) marked the One Year Countdown to the first Youth Olympic Games at a spectacular ceremony in Padang.
A 10-metre high countdown clock was unveiled at the location, where thousands of Singaporeans gathered in February 2008 to hear the announcement of Singapore as the host city for the inaugural Games.
The countdown started a 8.10pm (20:10 on the 24-hour clock) and was preceded by entertainment with performances from local stars. There was also an area where people were able to try out some of the sports that will be included in the Games.
