Miscellaneous
Serena Williams and Venus Williams (USA) are the only tennis players to win four Olympic gold medals. They have won three doubles gold medals together at Sydney 2000, Beijing 2008 and London 2012. In addition, they have won one singles gold medal each, Venus at Sydney 2000 and Serena at London 2012.
The successful defence of an Olympic tennis title has only happened twice before. Gigi Fernandez and Mary Joe Fernandez (USA) - no relation! - won the women's doubles gold medal at Barelona 1992 and Atlanta 1996. Then Serena Williams and Venus Williams - sisters! - won the women's doubles gold medal at Beijing 2008 and London 2012.
Serena Williams and Venus Williams (USA), and Conchita Martinez (ESP) are the only tennis players to win medals at three different Olympic Games.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA) and Milos Raonic (CAN) contested the longest set in games (48 games) in Olympic tennis history at London 2012. Tsonga won the match 63 36 25-23. It was also the longest ever best-of-three-sets Olympic match in games (66 games).
Roger Federer (SUI) and Juan Martin del Potro (ARG) contested the longest ever best-of-three-sets tennis match in time (4 hours 26 minutes) in the Open Era at London 2012. Federer won the match 36 76(5) 19-17.
Only five men and two women have won three medals at the same Olympic Games. This was only possible at Paris 1900 and Stockholm 1912 for men, and Antwerp 1920 and Paris 1924 for women, as these are the only occasions that a mixed doubles event has been contested with tennis being a medal sport. Mixed doubles is returning at London 2012.
