Coming into her birthday month, Julia Terziyska had lost in the first round of her previous two visits to Sharm El Sheikh but her fortunes in the Egyptian resort were about to change dramatically this month.

In her two tournaments in March, she twice reached the final in doubles alongside Laura-Ioana Andrei but lost out in match tiebreaks on both occasions but it was in singles play where success was to arrive.

Taking to the courts a day after turning 22, the unseeded Bulgarian met with little resistance as she moved into her first final since early December without loss of a set.

Italian Ludmilla Samsonova edged the opening set of the final on a tiebreak before Terziyska reeled off 6 games in a row to quickly level the match. The deciding set brought about the second tiebreak of the final with Terziyska reversing the score of the first set to take it 7-4 and wrap up a 67(4) 60 76(4) win and cap a happy birthday week with her first title of 2018.

Competing at the same venue the following week, Terziyska was again unseeded and after two straight sets wins she was faced across the net by her Romanian doubles partner of this and the previous week.

This quarterfinal clash saw Terziyska almost replicate her score from the previous round when conceding one game less in the tiebreak to defeat Andrei 76(3) 63.

A three set win in the semis took her into back-to-back finals for the fifth time in her career in Sharm El Sheikh having also achieved such a feat three times in 2015 and once in early 2016.

The title match pitted her against the fifth seeded Spaniard Nuria Parrizas-Diaz who, surprisingly, only managed to take two games off the Bulgarian as Terziyska romped to a 60 62 win for her seventh singles title win from eleven career finals in Sharm El Sheikh.
