Having reached, and won, the final of the first of the year’s tournaments in Australia which began during the final week of February, Marc Polmans carried his form into the three Australian based tournaments this month.

On the grass courts in Mildura, the top seeded Australian survived an early scare when falling behind in his first round match, and again in the quarterfinals, to maintain his 100 per cent start down under by winning a second title.

Two clay based tournaments followed in Mornington where the 20-year-old was again the number one seed.

In the first, Polmans did not drop a set all week as he completed his hat trick. In the final he defeated second seed Max Purcell and the two Aussies would be reunited just a week later.

Seeing out the month, Polmans moved into the final when fourth seed Andrew Harris retired from their match with Polmans up 4-0. This brought about a swift chance for Purcell to avenge his straight sets loss to Polmans in the previous week’s title match.

The two players played out a closely fought match which saw Polmans unbeaten run finally brought to an end with Purcell securing a straight sets win of his own, 75 64.
