An Independent Tribunal appointed under Article 15 of the 2018 ITF Davis Cup Regulations has upheld the decision of the ITF to fine Marcelo Rios $2,500 for a violation of the Davis Cup Code of Conduct.

Mr Rios, a member of Chile’s player support personnel team, appealed the code violation and fine issued by the tie referee for verbal abuse toward a group of journalists ahead of Chile’s Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Americas Zone Group I first round tie against Ecuador in Santiago on 31 January. The Tribunal concluded that Mr Rios was in breach of the Code of Conduct, and the fine of $2,500 was a justified and proportionate penalty.

The decision of the Independent Tribunal is final.
