Tommaso Giovannini and Andrea Stuto defeated both the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds en route to the title at the second Abierto Internacional Beach Tennis Salinas, a $15,000+H event in Ecuador.

Seeded fourth, the Italian pair took out Venezulans Carlos Lobo and Freddy Rodriguez in their opening match before defeating No. 7 seeds Aksel Samardzic and Paolo Tronci in the quarterfinals.

That set up a contest against top seeds Luca Cramarossa and Marco Garavini. Giovannini and Stuto won a narrow opening set in a tiebreak, but won just a single game in second set. The pair bounced back admirably in the decider, however, eventually winning 76(7) 16 62.

The final - against No. 2 seeds Alessandro Calbucci and Michele Cappelletti - was won in two tight sets, with Giovannini and Stuto posting a 64 75 victory to claim the title.

In the women's event, the second-seeded Italian-Venezuelan pairing of Flaminia Daina and Patricia Diaz, came from behind against No. 4 seeds Joana Cortez and Marcela Vita to win the final. Daina and Diaz won 26 61 75, exacting revenge for their defeat to Cortez and Vita in Fortaleza earlier in the year.

The victory for Daina and Diaz was their second of the year, with the pair having won the other $15,000+H event in 2018 in Sao Paulo.

The next major stops on the ITF Beach Tennis Tour are  a $15,000+H event in Reunion on 16-18 March and a $10,000 tournament in Martinique on 30 March-1 April.
