Sri Lanka's under 14 boys' team

Lebanon and Malaysia’s girls’ and Sri Lanka and Qatar’s boys’ teams came through the under 14 World Junior Tennis Asia/Oceania pre-qualifying event with flying colours in Colombo, Sri Lanka on 5-10 March.

All four teams produced a strong week in Colombo to progress to the Asia/Oceania final qualifying event in Bangkok, which begins at the end of the month and will see the boys’ event take place on 26-31 March before the girls’ competition on 2-7 April.

A place in the ITF World Junior Tennis Finals in Prostejov on 6-11 August is at stake for the best performing nations in Bangkok.

The top two teams in each of the boys’ and girls’ events in Colombo this week progressed to the next stage, but it was the host nation who took centre stage in the boys’ event, with Sri Lanka securing victories over Singapore, Laos and Malaysia, before defeating top-seeded Qatar in the final.

Lebanon won the girls’ competition, recovering from a defeat against top seeds Iran to go on and win all their matches – compiling wins over Malaysia, Mongolia, Singapore and Kyrgyzstan.

International junior team competition continues in Colombo this week at the under 16 Junior Davis Cup and Junior Fed Cup Asia/Oceania pre-qualifying event.

Two teams in the boys’ event and three teams in the girls’ event will go through to the final qualifying event in Kuching, Malaysia on 9-14 April (Junior Davis Cup) and 16-21 April (Junior Fed Cup). Their aim is a place in the Junior Davis and Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Finals in Budapest, Hungary in September.

The boys’ World Junior Tennis North/Central America & Caribbean pre-qualifying event is also taking place in Guatemala City, ahead of the girls’ event at the same venue next week. One team from each event will progress to the final qualifying event in Mexico City on 26-28 April.
