GSDF Team to Australia 2018

The first International 18 & Under GSDF Team to Australia since 2007 ended its tour to the first Grand Slam of the year with some strong results - highlighted by Daniela Vismane's quarterfinal run in the girls' singles event at the Australian Open.

The GSDF Team to Australia competed in one Grade 1 tournament and one Grade A tournament, with five boys and four girls taking part in the trip.

As well as Vismane, the girls' team was comprised of Gergana Topalova of Bulgaria, Sohyun Park from Korea, Rep. and Sada Nahimana of Burundi.

The boys' team included Yeongseok Jeong of Korea, Rep., Yanki Erel from Turkey, Christian Didier Chin of Malaysia, Adrian Andreev from Bulgaria and Filip Cristian Jianu of Romania.

Park set a high standard for the GSDF Team by reaching the quarterfinals of both the girls’ singles and doubles categories at the first event on the tour - the AGL Loy Yang Traralgon Junior International. Erel, meanwhile, reached the semifinals of the boys’ doubles event.

At the Australian Open Junior Championships, Vismane did the GSDF Team proud by reaching the quarterfinals of the girls’ singles event, while Jianu reached the semifinals of the boys’ doubles category.

The ITF would like to thank Tennis Australia for their part in the organisation of the two tournaments, and for offering such great hospitality to the players.

The team, which travelled with coaches Roberta Burzagli, Adrian Muscillo and Glenn Hamilton, is financed by the Grand Slam Development Fund.

The fund provides players with the opportunity to take part in top-level international competition as well as gain invaluable experience of travelling abroad as part of a team under the guidance of a Team Coach.
