ORANJESTAD, ARUBA: For the first time at these Championships we had non-Brazilian title winners in a pro event with Ali Colmenares and Ramon Guedez triumphing over their compatriots Jorge Penalver and Jesus Rodrigues in the men's doubles final.

This ended a run of four years where the Brazilians had made a clean sweep of the men’s, women’s and mixed titles at the pro level.

There was though continued Brazilian success in the other events with Joana Cortez keeping up her remarkable feat of winning the women’s doubles title each year as, alongside Rafaella Miiller, she made a successful defence of the 2016 title. Cortez was also a winner once again with Vinicius Font in the mixed-doubles final.

Championships newcomers, Bonaire, saw their players Jan and Mark Wachtmeester put on a fine display. The duo, competing in their first ITF beach tennis event were drawn against Ecuador's Andres Cabezas Rubio, ranked within the Top 50, and his partner Xavier Viteri and took five games off their far more experienced opponents who came through 63 62.

The juniors were also in action again this year and the future certainly looks bright for Venezuela with their young players capping a truly memorable year, which had already seen them crowned World Team Champions back in July, by capturing eight of the available nine titles across three age groups, failing only in the Under-12 girl's doubles which saw Aruban players coming out on top for the second year running.
