SUZHOU, CHINA: Former WTA world number five Sara Errani, 30, last competed on the ITF Pro Circuit in 2007 but last week she made a winning return in the east of China.

Over the course of the decade that has passed since, Errani has enjoyed a lot of success in the game with notable highlights including ascending to the number one ranking in doubles in 2012, winning each of the Grand Slam doubles titles and being part of the Italian national team which triumphed in three Fed Cup finals.

Her return to the ITF Pro Circuit comes off the back of claiming her first doubles title since 2015 at the WTA Tour event in Tianjin.

Unseeded, Errani moved through the rounds dropping just two sets en route to the final where she faced China’s Hanyu Guo who had eliminated the number one seed Nao Hibino at the quarterfinal stage.

Errani herself had also defeated a top seeded player in the number two seed Kurumi Nara when coming from behind to earn the win and a place in the final.

The final itself proved to be a rather one-sided affair between the two unseeded players with the Italian drawing on all her experience in the game to dominate her teenage opponent and run out a 61 60 winner.
