BARCELONA, SPAIN: Over the weekend of 30 September - 1 October, the ITF Beach Tennis Tour took to the courts in Barcelona, Spain as the city continues celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the Barcelona ’92 Olympic Games.

Italian number one seeds Veronica Casadei and Nicole Nobile saw off the challenge from Russians Julia Chubarova and Ekaterina Kamenetckaia to claim the women's title in Barcelona.

The third seeds were the only team to take a set off the Italians over the weekend’s play when they drew level in the final before the top seeded duo eventually saw out the match with a 61 36 64 win.

Over in the men’s final it was the Italian-French partnership, and second seeds, of Diego Bollettinari and Theo Irigaray who overpowered their opponents as they made it through the rounds to take the title without loss of a set, including in a close 64 76(5) defeat of the top seeds in the title match.

The Beach Tennis Trophy “City of Barcelona” tournament in featuring a $6,500 prize pot became the first to offer prize money in the city this year, following on from three non-prize money tournaments held in the first half of 2017.

This tournament, offering the second highest prize pot for a Spanish tournament in 2017 after an April $15,000 tournament on Gran Canaria and the highest on mainland Spain, attracted interest from around the globe with competitors hailing from South America, the Caribbean and across Europe.
