SHYMKENT, KAZAKHSTAN: Last Friday saw the Ukrainian duo of Artem Smirnov and Volodymyr Uzhylovskyi extend their remarkable winning streak in ITF Pro Circuit doubles finals.

Since first teaming up, and winning, at a tournament in Turkey in late 2012, the pair had contested eleven finals coming into this latest tournament outing, winning the title on each of the last six occasions.

This could easily have been thirteen finals but for two very close defeats in semifinals in their homeland during March 2014, which came either side of their maiden Ukrainian title win.

Last week’s appearance in Kazakhstan was their first as a partnership in the nation and the event got off to an impressive start with Smirnov and Uzhylovskyi dropping just one game in the opening round. Comfortable progress was made through the rounds and a 64 62 semifinal defeat of the second seeds Vladyslav Manafov and Vladimir Polyakov saw them advance to their twelfth final together.

In the final they took on fourth seeds Mikhail Fufygin and Vladimir Ivanov and, continuing their form of the week, a fourth consecutive straight sets win was soon recorded to pick up their tenth career title and in the process extending their run to seven wins from their last seven finals.

This week, Smirnov and Uzhylovskyi are once again competing in Kazakhstan as third seeds and you can follow their progress online here and via our mobile live scoring app.
