LISBON, PORTUGAL: Hubert Hurkacz won his first title since late 2015 with a 75 61 defeat of local hope Joao Domingues.
Polish Davis Cup player Hurkacz, who is now closing in on his career best ATP singles ranking was named the fourth seed in Lisbon and his win over his third seeded opponent followed up his closely fought semifinal win over the top seed Yannick Mertens from Belgium.
Mertens also came close in the doubles event where, partnered with David Vega Hernandez, he reached Saturday’s final but had to settle for the runners-up trophy as the Portuguese third seeds Felipe Cunha Silva and Joao Monteiro took the title with a 63 75 win.
Cunha Silva and Monteiro’s win was their second as a team having also won the title in their only previous outing in Tunisia during early February.
