Several former champions and past finalists remain in contention for the singles titles at the Trofeo della Mole after all four seeds reached the  men’s and women’s semifinals on the third day of the UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour event in Turin.

Top seed and defending champion Joachim Gerard, the runner-up in 2012, will meet Britain’s David Phillipson in the men’s singles semifinals for the second successive year after defeating French seventh seed David Dalmasso 62 63. Phillipson earned his place in the last four for the second year in a row after his 61 61 win over French eighth seed Lahcen Majdi.

Two-time champion Maikel Scheffers of Netherlands will play Australian third seed Adam Kellerman in the other semifinal  after the Dutchman, the winner in Turin in 2008 and 2011, defeated 16-year-old world No. 1 ranked junior and fifth seed Alfie Hewett of Great Britain 63 61.

Kellerman came through the only deciding set needed in the four quarterfinals to defeat Austria’s 2007 champion Martin Legner, also a former runner-up, 62 06 64.

Dutchwoman Marjolein Buis and Italy’s Marianna Lauro, the runners-up in Turin between 2010 and 2012, will attempt to the reach the final once again and could yet meet in this year’s title decider. Spanish eighth seed Lola Ochoa did her best to take top seed Buis to a deciding set in their quarterfinal, but world No. 6 Buis held on to seal a 61 75 victory

Lauro, the last remaining Italian hope of a home singles title, overcame Australia’s Sarah Calati, the only unseeded player in the quarterfinals, 61 62. Lauro, the runner-up in 2010 and 2012, will take on world No. 10 Lucy Shuker as she bids to reach her third singles final in Turin. Like Lauro, British second seed Shuker also dropped just three games in her quarterfinal against fifth seed Emmanuelle Morch, eventually wrapping up a 62 61 win over the Frenchwoman.

There were thrilling conclusions to one of the two semifinals in each of the men’s and women’s doubles, with second seeds Kaiser and Lauro going out of the women’s doubles. Third seeds Christine Schoenn of France and Mieke van Chastelet of Netherlands edged out Kaiser and Lauro 64 57 (10-7) after a championship tiebreak and go on to face top seeds Buis and Shuker in Friday’s final.

Seconds seeds Hewett and Dutchman Ricky Molier held off fourth seeds Legner and Fabian Mazzei of Italy 64 46 (10-6) to book their place in the men’s doubles final against Belgian top seeds Mike Denayer and Gerard.
