USA Junior Fed Cup and WJT Teams
The North/Central America & Caribbean Final Qualifying event took place last week in Montreal, Canada. USA, Mexico and Canada automatically qualify for the Final Qualifying and were joined by the top nation from the pre-qualifying event, held in March. Dominican Republic had qualified in the boys' event while Guatemala made it through in the girls' event. The four nations in each event were competing for two places available at the ITF World Junior Tennis Finals.
USA and Canada dominated both the boys' and girls' event, sailing through to the Finals at the top of the round robin groups.
The Junior Davis Cup and Junior Fed Cup Qualifying was being played at the same time using a similar format. Guatemala qualified in both the boys' and girls' event to join Mexico, USA and Canada. There was only one spot up for grabs, however, as Mexico automatically qualify for a place in the Finals as the host nation.
USA claimed the top spot in each event as they cruised through the Final Qualifying, with the Junior Davis Cup team finishing their three ties without dropping a single set.
Also taking place last week was the ITF World Junior Tennis South America Qualifying in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Ten nations were competing in the boys' and girls' events for the three places available at the ITF World Junior Tennis boys' event and two places for the girls' event.
In the boys' event it was Brazil who came out on top, defeating Argentina in the final on Saturday. Colombia pipped Paraguay to the post for the third qualifying spot. All three nations will travel to the Finals in Prostejov, Czech Republic on 4-9 August.
In the girls' event there were only two places available. Colombia took first place beating Peru in the final, with both nations qualifying for the Finals.
