The ITF Play Tennis course was hosted by the Bahrain Tennis Federation, with the support of the Bahrain Ministry of Education, from 16 to 18 March. The course was conducted by Amir Borghei, ITF Expert and Development Officer for West Asia, assisted by local coaches Essam Abdulaal and Antonio Catito. Twenty female sports teachers from Bahrain schools participated in the course durnig which they were introduced to topics such as: ITF Play and Stay Campaign, Tennis 10s, Red-Orange-Green stages of learning, how to organise lessons for children as well as basic techniques and tactics in tennis. They also had the opportunity to play tennis during the 3 days and the feedback was that they loved it and were motivated to continue similar activities within their schools.
Dr. Shaikha Al-Jeeb, Director of Sports for the Bahrain Ministry of Education, and Fuad AlRowaie, BTF Board Member, joined the closing ceremony and thanked the ITF for organising this course in Bahrain. They emphasised that with the help of teachers, tennis should be initiated within schools.
Additionally, Amir noted that "this was a good move by the BTF and a way of solidifying the JTI programme in Bahrain. The ultimate goal is that in the future we see children coming out of such junior programmes to play for the national teams. I should also thank our course coordinator, Mohammed Al-Najjar, whose help enabled the course to run smoothly".
Participants received an ITF Certificate of Attendance at the end of the course.
