The ITF announces that the Sardinia Open has been voted Tournament of the Year on the ITF Wheelchair Tennis Tour for the second successive year

The ITF 1 Series event wins the accolade for the third time in total after also being named Tournament of the Year jointly in 2004 alongside the Swiss Open.

The Sardinia Open beat two-time former winner the British Open, one of six Super Series tournaments, and the ITF 1 Series Nottingham Indoor in a public Facebook poll after the three tournaments received the most nominations in an initial email voting process.

The Tournament of the Year award is presented once a year to a tournament on the ITF Wheelchair Tennis Tour which is acknowledged because of its contribution towards the development of wheelchair tennis at national/international level, the quality of organisation (includes all organisational aspects, such as officiating, transportation, hotel etc.), additional events organised during the event to entertain players and coaches and the promotion of the event and wheelchair tennis in general.

The Sardinia Open continues to demonstrate high levels of organisation and promotion under the leadership of Alberto Corradi and his team. At its idyllic setting, Tennis Club Alghero, the ITF 1 Series event remains among the highest quality events on the Tour and one of the most popular with players from around the world.

“I am very happy to receive this news. I believe winning once could imply a lot of positive circumstances, but winning twice in a row is the confirmation that the team of Sardinia Open is valued and well perceived by the players from all over the world,” said Corradi. “I would like to thank everyone involved in the tournament and a big thank to the team of volunteers.”
