A total of 360 teams from 101 countries are set to participate in the 2014 Junior Team Competitions this year, with action already underway in the ITF's two premier international team events for juniors.
The Junior Davis and Fed Cup by BNP Paribas, the prestigious international team competition for players aged 16 and under, sees participants compete in various qualifying events across the globe for the chance to compete at the Junior Davis/Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Finals on 23-28 September.
Last year's event, which saw Spain crowned as boys' champion and Russia win the girls' title, was held in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, while this year's venue is yet to be confirmed.
The ITF World Junior Tennis competition, the event for under 14s, has a similar format with teams contesting qualifying events in a bid to reach the World Junior Tennis Finals in Prostejov, Czech Republic on 4-9 August.
Kuching, Malaysia opened the proceedings in the 2014 junior team competitions last week by hosting the Asia/Oceania Pre-Qualifying tournament for the ITF World Junior Tennis and Junior Fed Cup by BNP Paribas events. Action in Malaysia continues this week with the Junior Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Asia/Oceania Pre-Qualifying event.
Also underway this week is the North/Central America & Caribbean Pre-Qualifying event for the Junior Davis Cup and Junior Fed Cup by BNP Paribas, taking place in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. A total of 15 boys' teams and 12 girls' teams will battle it out for the sole place available in each discipline for the Final Qualifying event in Montreal, Canada on 8-10 May, where they will join teams from Mexico, Canada and USA.
