Hosts off to a flying start in Kuching

The hosts got off to a flying start in Group A of the ITF World Junior Tennis girls’ event, dropping just five games against Turkmenistan.  Nurul Amirah Ahmad Zamzury dropped just one game as she romped to victory over Turkmenistan's Maral Ahmedova in just fifty minutes. A win against Lebanon tomorrow, in their second round robin match, would secure the hosts a place in the semi finals.   Group B sees second seeds Singapore currently leading the group.  Tomorrow they will face off against third seeds Kyrgysztan, who also remain unbeaten.

Philippines ITF World Junior Tennis boys’ team bounced back from their defeat on day one to secure a convincing 3-0 win over Kyrgyzstan on the second day in Group C.  Michael Francis II Eala (PHI) dropped just one game to secure the win for the third seeds in the second singles rubber.  Top seeds, Lebanon, have played just the one tie but enjoyed a comfortable win over Iran, racing to a 3-0 win in just over three hours.  They will face Saudi Arabia tomorrow for Group A's spot in the semi finals.  Group B sees second seeds Syria dominating with a 3-0 win over Sri Lanka.  A win against Yemen tomorrow would see them advance to the semi final stage of the competition.

In the Junior Fed Cup by BNP Paribas event top seeds Kazakhstan dominated on day one of their campaign with a whitewash victory over Kyrgyzstan.  Both Milana Lyssova and Kamilla Bolatova posted 60 60 wins over their respective opponents.  Second seeds Sri Lanka are also yet to drop a set in their bid to reach the Final Qualifying event.
