Reunion Island 2012 action

This March will once again see back-to-back Grade 1 tournaments taking place on the islands of Mauritius and Reunion and with each offering $10,000 in prize money, a good turnout is expected.

In 2013, Michele Cappelletti and Luca Carli capped a great two weekends on the Indian Ocean islands as they swept aside all-comers. Following a first round bye in Mauritius, the top seeded duo went on a run that saw them triumph in ten successive matches, all in straight sets, to take the men’s title on both islands.

The action in the women’s events saw No. 1 seeds Frederica Baccheta and Guilia Spazzoli overcome a tough semifinal in Mauritius before taking the title with the loss of just two games, both in the second set, over Pauline Bourdet and Flavia Muniz.

The champions in Mauritius did not travel to Reunion Island and Bourdet and Muniz, named as the top seeds, took full advantage of their absence to shake off their final defeat the week before to take the title in a closely fought final lasting for twenty-four games!

The 2014 editions of these two tournaments will be held during the week’s commencing March 3 (Mauritius) and March 10 (Reunion).
