After another exciting season on the ITF Beach Tennis Tour, Alessandro Calbucci and Marco Garavini retained the men’s year-end number one ranking position they earned in 2012. There was, however, a change in the women’s rankings as the highly rated duo of Samantha Barijan and Joana Cortez secured the top spot that they had held since September and in doing so prevented Laura Olivieri and Simona Briganti from making a hatrick of year-end number one finishes.

Both pairs of year-end number ones claimed world and regional title wins over the course of the year, including the World and European Championships titles won by Calbucci and Garavini whilst Barijan and Cortez could boast title wins at the World Team Championship and the inaugural Pan American Championships. The Brazilian pair also racked up four Grade 1 titles.

When adding the 2013 European Champions title to his World Championships success the week previous, Garavini emulated his feat of 2012 when he won both titles with another fellow countryman in Paolo Tazzari.

Congratulations go out to Alessandro Calbucci, Marco Garavini, Joana Cortez and Samantha Barijan for finishing the year in the world number one spot.

The 2014 season is already underway as the players return to action as the battle for the number one spot continues!
