The ITF are saddened to hear of the death of Mr Charles Devoe from the USA who passed away recently.
Mr Devoe participated regulary on both the ITF Seniors Circuit and in the ITF Seniors and Super-Seniors World Team Championships. He represented the USA in 20 different Cups, winning eight World Team titles, the first one in 1977 in the Dubler Cup, followed by three Von Cramm Cup victories in 1991, 1993 and 1994, as well as four Britannia Cup wins in 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1999. His final appearance at World Team Championships came in 2007 for the Bitsy Grant Cup team in Christchurch, New Zealand.
At World Individual Championships, he won three Doubles titles, the first one with John Powless in 1989, the second with William Davis in 1997 and the third one in 2001 with Russell Seymour.
Mr Devoe remained active in ITF Seniors Circuit events up until 2010, with his last competition coming at the USTA Mens Hard Court Championships. As a very accomplished player, he was often highly ranked and achieved a number one ranking on at least one occasion in October 2001.
