The final event in South America, the Otto Hauser 2013, came to a conclusion over the weekend in Punta del Este, Uruguay. As a Grade 2 tournament, the standard of play was strong with a number of highly ranked players on view. One accomplished player taking home a title was Mauro Barman (ARG), who won the Mens Over 35 Singles, defeating Diego Deseta (ARG) in the decisive match in the round robin event.
The most supported event on the mens side was the Over 60 Singles. Third seed Juan-Carlos Mascheroni (ARG) won the title with a routine 62 62 win over Horacio Cash (ARG) in the final. The current world number 12 was in impressive form all week and went through the tournament without dropping a set.
Most of the womens events were played as round robin format and out of the eight singles events held, four a piece were won by Brazilians and Argentinians. World number 12, Bernadete Viana Dos Santos (BRA), won the Over 65 title with a compelling 46 63 61 victory over compatriot Sonia Maria de Almeida Caixero, in the final.
