Austria’s Pokorny wins Super-Seniors title

Peter Pokorny of Austria was the winner of the Men’s 70 title at the 2013 ITF Super-Seniors World Individual Championships. Pokorny, a resident of Graz, Austria, delighted his home fans when he defeated Giancarlo Milesi 61 63 for the title in Poertschach in September.

It was the 73-year-old’s ninth world individual single title, and of all the male players in action in the event for 60-85 year-olds, Pokorny was the only one to defend his title from 2012. He also won the mixed doubles title with countrywoman Sofia Garaguly.

The Autumn 2013 edition of ITFWorld wrongly stated on page 22 that Pokorny was Canadian and the ITF apologises for this error. As an Austrian Tennis Federation spokesman noted, “It happens sometimes that Austrians get mixed up with Australians but to my knowledge never so far with Canadians.”
