Roman Safiullin - The 16-year-old Russian is the No. 1 player on the top-seeded Russian Junior Davis Cup by BNP Paribas team. Safiullin has won three of the four singles matches he has played this week. He defeated Sumit Nagal of India 63 61 on Tuesday, he beat Agustin Torreano of Argentina 61 63 on Wednesday, fell to Jaume Antoni Munar Clar of Spain 61 62 on Thursday, and on Friday defeated Jumpei Yamasaki of Japan 64 63 in the play-off round. Currently boasting a combined ranking of 24, this season Safiullin won two Grade 1 events in Linz and in the Czech Republic.
Margot Yerolymos - The 16-year-old kept sixth-seeded France alive in the play-off 9-12 on Friday. In the first rubber, France’s Apolline Rassat fell to Tereza Mihalikova of Slovak Republic 63 63. Yerolymos went on court against the Slovak’s No. 1 Kristina Schmiedlova and pulled out a 16 63 61 win. She then teamed with Rassat to bring in the doubles victory 36 75 64 to win their playoff tie 2-1. In the round-robin portion of the competition, Yerolymos won all three of her singles matches. The French captain Nicolas Copin is also Yerolymos’ coach at home. “I’m so happy,” Yerolymos said. “Normally, I would play the No. 2 position but one girl was injured so I played No. 1 which was a great experience for me.”
