POERTSCHACH, AUSTRIA & PROSTEJOV, CZECH REPUBLIC: In the Alice Marble Cup (W60) co-host Austria caused a major upset by defeating fourth seed Netherlands, 2-1. Maya Kerschbaum comprehensively defeated Heleena Janssen-Prins, 62 61, to give Austria an unexpected lead. Nora Blom levelled the tie, coming back from a set down to defeat Maria Pichler, 36 62 75. Pichler and Kerschbaum combined to clinch the decisive double 63 64 and sending the hosts into tomorrow's final where top seed USA awaits.

Success for the host nation continued in the Jack Crawford Cup (M70). In the second day of play in the 1-6 play-off, top seed Austria defeated third seed Italy, 2-1. Second seed USA defeated sixth seed Australia, 3-0, whilst fifth seed France defeated Great Britain, also 2-1.

Also being held in Poertschach is the Von Cramm Cup (M60), with the title being contested in a 1-5 play-off. Top seed USA defeated host Austria 3-0, whilst second seed France also won, 2-1, against seventh seed Canada. USA and France will play on Saturday.

In the Britannia Cup (M65), fourth seed Switzerland shocked top seed USA with a 2-1 victory in this 1-6 play-off group. Second seed Spain also sealed a 2-1 win over Germany. Spain and Switzerland will face each other tomorrow to determine who will take the title.

Techelsberg is hosting the Althea Gibson Cup (W70), where top seed USA look peerless as they claimed another 3-0 clean sweep today, this time against third seed France. The USA team is yet to lose a single match. Tasked with upsetting the odds in tomorrow's final will be Great Britain, after it completed a 3-0 upset over second seed Germany today.

Success for Great Britain continued in Villach, host of the Queen's Cup (W75). A 2-1 victory over Germany means that Great Britain will take on top seed USA in tomorrow's decisive tie in this 1-3 play-off.

Staying in Villach, and there was further success for the USA in the Gardnar Mulloy Cup (M80). The top seed defeated fourth seed Australia, 3-0, whilst third seed France defeated second seed Canada convincingly, 3-0. USA and France will contest the title tomorrow.

Villach also hosts the Doris Hart Cup (W80). Current champion and top seed Canada is on course to retain its title, after overcoming France 3-0. Third seed Australia sealed its place in the final against the current champion, with a 2-1 victory over unseeded Great Britain.

In Prostejov, in both the Bitsy Grant Cup (M75) and Kitty Godfree Cup (W65) 5th to 16th play-offs took place today, with heavy rain interrupting play. In the Bitsy Grant Cup, USA - champion for the past 5 years - will face second seed Germany in tomorrow's final, whilst in the Kitty Godfree Cup, an undefeated France faces second seed USA.
