The hosts continued their impressive run at the South America Qualifying event with both the Bolivian Junior Davis Cup and Junior Fed Cup teams recording notable wins on day three.
The Junior Davis Cup team raced to victory against Uruguay after the two singles rubbers, with both Stephan Koenigsfest and Rodrigo Banzer posting straight set victories. The two then combined to face off against Uruguayan pair Dan Kaplun and Federico Lopez in what turned into a titanic battle between the two nations, with the hosts prevailing 76 67 76 in just under three hours.
Bolivia now sit at the top of their group and the boys will receive a much deserved day off on Thursday before taking on top seeds Argentina on Friday.
Argentina dropped just one set against Colombia as they posted a 3-0 win to keep their 100% winning record intact. Third seeds Peru also enjoyed a convincing 3-0 win to keep alive their hopes of qualification into the Junior Davis Cup Finals in San Luis Potosi, Mexico on 24-29 September as they cruised to victory over Venezuela.
The Bolivian Junior Fed Cup team followed the success of the boys’ team with a hard-fought win over fourth seeds Colombia. Juliana Valero of Colombia drew first blood with a three-set win over Bolivia’s Natalia Barbery, before Daniela Ruiz battled to a 75 63 win over Maria Fernanda Herazo to level the tie at 1-1. The deciding doubles went the distance with Ruiz joining forces with Natalia de Ugarte to see off Herazo and Laura Arciniegas 76 46 63 to take top spot in Group A.
Another tight battle saw Chile overcome top seeds Ecuador in the deciding doubles, with the Chilean duo of Fernanda Astet and Catalina Obrecht fighting back from a set down to seal victory.
Second seeds Brazil and third seeds Paraguay enjoyed more straightforward wins on day three as they both recorded 3-0 wins over their respective opponents, Uruguay and Peru.
