The boys teams at the Junior Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Final Qualifying event in Gimcheon, Korea had to play catch-up today, completing two rounds of ties after rain on Tuesday washed out play.
Hosts Korea, Republic continued its impressive run this week, demolishing eighth seeds Hong Kong in the quarterfinal and fourth seeds India in the semifinal without the loss of a set. They now go through to tomorrow's final where they will take on second seeds Japan.
Japan raced past Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals and went on to face third seeds Australia in the semifinals. Japan's Sora Fukuda fought back from a set down and held his nerve in the match tie-break to defeat Oliver Anderson 57 64 10-7 to draw first blood against Australia. Yusuke Takahashi then proceeded to seal victory for Japan with a straight sets win over Marc Polmans.
The four top-placed nations, Korea, Japan, Australia and India, have qualified for the prestigious Junior Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Finals in San Luis Potosi, Mexico on 24-29 September.
In the final qualifying event for the Junior Fed Cup, only two of the three nations to qualify for the Finals in Mexico have been decided.
Australia will face Korea in tomorrow's final and both teams have thus qualified for the Finals in September, while New Zealand and Japan will fight it out in tomorrow's third place play-off, with the winning nation enjoying the last available spot for an Asia/Oceania nation at the Finals.
