Finalists decided in El Salvador

Top seeds Dominican Republic advanced to the final of the Junior Davis Cup by BNP Paribas North/Central American & Caribbean Pre-Qualifying event at the expense of hosts El Salvador.

The Dominican duo of Jose Olivares and William Kirkman proved too strong for Galileo Cabrales and Atilio Flores respectively with a pair of straight-set victories securing the number one seeds’ spot in the last two.

They will play Honduras in Saturday’s final after the Honduran team secured an impressive win over in-form Guatemala. Cristian Zeron scored the first point with a 62 60 victory against Ian Amaya and then Andres Argeñal battled from a set down to defeat Ryan Muller 36 75 64 in three hours and 20 minutes.

In the girls’ event, Puerto Rico will take on Cuba in Saturday’s showpiece after both teams enjoyed success in Friday’s semis.

Number one seeds Puerto Rico were made to work hard by hosts El Salvador for their place in the final. Claudia Carrera and Amanda Gomez clinched the all-important point in the doubles rubber, defeating Paola Carpio and Nancy Menjivar 62 64 in an hour and a quarter to seal the tie 2-1.

Puerto Rico had a smoother ride against Barbados as Paola Maza and Chantal Martinez wrapped up victory with wins in their singles rubbers against Kayla Frost and Kiana Marshall.

The winners of Saturday’s finals will earn a spot in the North/Central American & Caribbean Final Qualifying event in Montreal on May 2-4, with the ultimate goal being a place in the Junior Davis Cup by BNP Paribas/Junior Fed Cup Finals on 24-29 September.
