World Tennis Day Tennis10s event in Lautoka, Fiji
World Tennis Day might officially be a one-day extravaganza for the sport on Monday 4 March but there are plenty of National Associations who have already held events to promote tennis and plenty more who are going to join in the fun.
Fiji was one of the first nations to kick off the inaugural celebrations with a Tennis10s event at the ITF Regional Training Centre in Lautoka.
Seventy-one new and experienced players hit the tennis courts on Saturday 2 March in celebration of World Tennis Day
The day consisted of fun and free play on all of the different sized development courts and the normal full size courts, using soft balls and short racquets up to competition balls and full size racquets.
ITF Coaches offered adult and junior lessons all morning, as well as Cardio Tennis with Music and movement. The day finished with biscuits and drinks, and an exhibition set between Training Centre players Tito Bira from Kiribati and junior Benjamin from Solomon Islands.
Other nations to have already hosted Tennis10s events include the Brazilian Tennis Federation, which put on a show at the WTA tournament in Florianopolis on Friday 1 March, and the Belarus Tennis Federation, which gave a Tennis10s exhibition during the National championships, which had been specifically moved to coincide with World Tennis Day.
There are many more events planned for the coming days and they will all be covered here.
