Florida to stage its first Grade 1 event

News Article

Fort Myers Beach, USA - April 2013

The 'Sunshine State' of Florida will be kick starting the US beach tennis season with a new Grade 1 event at Fort Myers Beach in April.

Following on from successful Grade 2 events in Miami in previous years, Florida is sure to attract entries from the top ranked male and female players for its first Grade 1 event. This three-day tournament gets underway on 19 April and offers $10,000 in prize money.

The North American region proved a popular destination throughout 2012 with 15 tournaments taking place and this G1 tournament will be the Tour’s first visit of the year.

Back in March 2012, Florida opened the North American season with a G2 in Miami, triumphant then were Italians Massimo Mattei and Niccolo Strano in the men’s event with Americans Nicole Melche and Nadia Johnston winning the women’s title.

Still ranked in the Top 20, the American ladies will undoubtedly be keen to repeat their success and keep the trophy on US sand.

If you’re lucky enough to attend this tournament we’d love to see your photos and read your comments which can be shared with fellow beach tennis fans worldwide on our official social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter with the hash tag #ITFbeach.
