PERTH, AUSTRALIA: Ana Ivanovic and Novak Djokovic have made a solid start to their Hopman Cup campaign and sent out a message to the rest of the field after securing victory over Italy by the end of the second rubber.
Ivanovic got off to a great start against Francesca Schiavone and put her team 1-0 up after an impressive 60 64 victory saw her start this year's season in the same way she ended the last.
Handing the baton to her countryman, Djokovic, he wasted no time in sealing the tie with a comfortable 63 64 win against Andreas Seppi.
The Serbians let the perfect performance slip through their grasp after falling 76(4) 64 in the mixed doubles, but they proved they will be a match for anyone and lived up to the billing of the No. 1 seeds.
The last time Djokovic and Ivanovic played the Hopman Cup - in 2011 - they finished top of their pool were forced to pull out of the final when Ivanovic sustained a stomach injury.
This year they will be hoping to go one better to start 2013 in style.
