UMAG AND NOVIGRAD, CROATIA: After persistent rain through the night and into Thursday night play was only possible at around 2pm today in the Super-Seniors World Team Championships. The first matches on court included some of yesterday’s ties that were played to a finish and play soon began across all of the different venues in Umag and Novigrad.

The USA took a significant step in their quest to win their first ever Women’s 80 Doris Hart Cup title with a 3-0 victory of the Netherlands today. The team of Lucille Kyvallos, Doris Jane Lutz, Margaret Canby and Joyce Jones won through their robin group with victories over Australia and South Africa for the loss of only one set. Their good form continued today as they mastered the wet and windy conditions to post another 3-0 victory over the battling Dutch side. The Doris Hart cup is in its second year and is only the only ITF Seniors Cup that the USA has yet to win.

In the Men’s 75 age category, the Bitsy Grant Cup, the semi-final line up was decided today with all four round robin groups in this age category concluding. The semi-final line ups see top seeds USA face fifth seeds Great Britain and second seeded Germany face fourth seeds Czech Republic.
